The advancement of STEM fields in South Florida depends heavily on reaching out to the next generation and getting them excited about solving the problems of tomorrow. This past Monday, October 27th, the Dolphins STEM Day event helped to further that cause by demonstrating that STEM fields can be exciting and rewarding to work in.
Florida International University, in conjunction with Florida Atlantic University and University of Miami, was a main sponsor for the event and hosted several tables, including stations for UPE and WiCS. Each table contained fun activities to get the next generation of STEM professionals interested in the growing Miami tech scene, including Sphero, Makey-Makey, Google puzzles, and cup stacking.
The event was a smashing success. Interesting technologies drew kids to the tables, and once their attention was captured, they were willing to learn about exciting aspects of STEM jobs and careers. With continuing investment in outreach to the youngest potential STEM graduates, FIU is working to provide for the growing tech scene in South Florida.
