Dr. Sergio Pisano Receives Rewarding Excellence in Teaching Incentive

Dr. Sergio Pisano is an engineer with a passion for teaching and technology. He was recently recognized by FIU through the Rewarding Excellence in Teaching Incentive award for his work in creating learning-centered, inclusive classroom experiences by using evidence and information-based results from his classroom to inform instructional design and practice. Dr. Pisano is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences, where he teaches computer science programming courses and microcomputer applications for business.

“I believe that education is the key that opens doors and empowers people,” stated Dr. Pisano, “Therefore, teaching for me is a joyful opportunity to empower students by introducing them to concepts in novel and engaging ways, stimulating their imagination, and guiding them in their academic journey with the hope of making an impactful difference.”

Dr. Pisano incorporates elements of his research interests into the classroom as well, by introducing game-based learning and novel teaching methodologies.

The RETI award provides a $1,000 incentive to the award winners, recognizing their emerging work which is reflective of intentional instructional design and practices.
