Hack FSU is a Hackathon hosted by Florida State University in conjunction with FAMU. Celebrating their 5th year hosting a hackathon, FSU welcomed over 400 students from all around Florida for this 36 hour event.
55 students from FIU traveled 8 hours to spend the weekend developing application and creating innovating ideas. Some of the projects submitted received prizes and honorable mentions by MLH and HackFSU Judges.
ESgARden received best use of Dragon Board. This team developed an application that allowed you to talk to your plant, “We attached Frank’s brain (Cleverbot) to a translating device (Android) through neural connections (API requests) and have given him ears (Speech Recognition) and a voice for him to speak to us (Google Text-To-Speech). We’ve also uncovered Frank’s true face (Augmented Reality) through the use of a neural network.” Learn more
Tastai received best use of AWS. This team developed a way to convert long cooking videos into 1-2 minute tasting videos, “It takes a youtube url for a cooking show video, like Rachel Ray, or Gordon Ramsay and it generates a short form video recipe similar to the popular Tasty videos.” Learn More
DJ Wallie received the most ridiculous hack prize. This project allowed the changing of music depending on your motions, “Brain of the operation is an Arduino Nano which is connected to an ultra sonic sensor that checks if there is a person there. There is also a gyroscope and an accelerometer that allows the Arduino to detect the change in axis which will indicate to change song to the one in the location.” Learn more
Didactive won the Department of Scientific Computing Prize. This team built a social media space where users can easily share and recommend scholarly information. “A space where people would be able to share and collect learning resources such as books, articles, and Ted Talks with the idea that people would be able to learn alongside their friends.” Learn More
