Google Awards Prof Selcuk Uluagac an Award for “Systematically Exploring Vulnerabilities on Android.”

Accomplishments, Faculty Award, Faculty Highlight, Research

Prof. Selcuk Uluagac has received a $137,000 unrestricted gift from Google for “Systematically Exploring Vulnerabilities on Android.” Google has made this available as part of its growing efforts to support excellent research in academia. The project will investigate potential vulnerabilities that may otherwise go unnoticed within the Android operating system.

Prof. Uluagac will investigate the update patterns in custom versions of Android OS and analyze the weaknesses of available code clone detection solutions. Based on the results of his initial investigation, Dr. Uluagac will develop novel mechanisms to identify vulnerabilities specific to customized code within the Android OS. His project will leverage cutting-edge techniques, code analysis, and pattern recognition to effectively pinpoint potential vulnerabilities that may otherwise go unnoticed. The project will offer a comprehensive assessment of security flaws within the customized code base, while new detection mechanisms will help increase the overall security of custom OS solutions.
