Florida International University (FIU) President, Mark B. Rosenberg, in his weekly newsletter, The Sunday Briefing, highlighted the college achievements of the School of Computing and Information Sciences student Carolina Uribe-Gosselin.

The newsletter began with Carolina is an example of an excellent student who has taken the full advantage of opportunities and was well supported by her family, faculty and staff.

Carolina is a splendid example of a student who has taken full advantage of the opportunities that she was offered. And like so many learners at FIU, Carolina comes from a family whose parents did not complete their college educations. Her success is no doubt a combination of a supportive family, her incredible drive and determination to open doors for herself, and the support she has received from our faculty and professional staff.

Carolina has held several internships from Lockheed Martin, Pearl Healthcare Technologies, Launchcode in Miami and Microsoft. Microsoft has hired her in a full-time position once she graduates his Spring. One of her internships came about as a result of FIU’s sponsorship for her to attend the Grace Hopper Conference, which is an all women’s tech gathering.

She credits her time at FIU, particularly as co-founder of SparkDev, with her professional success. FIU’s SparkDev, part of the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society, is a nine-week program designed to give students of any skill level the chance to participate in hands-on projects in various STEM fields.

The newsletter goes on to speak about The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) opportunities and experiences that it provides to their students.

  • CEC is sending 124 students to Washington, DC to the Black Engineers of the Year Awards (BEYA) Conference
  • Hosting Engineering Expo 2020 – 2,000 K-12 students from schools from all over Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
  • In March, FIU Women in Engineering and Computing
  • and many more…

Congratulations to Carolina Uribe-Gosselin on all of her success and we are all wishing for much more in the future.
