The first-ever Women in Tech Conference (WiTCON) at Florida International University (FIU) is set to take place on March 24th, and has already generated overwhelming enthusiasm within the FIU community. The event is being held at FIU’s main campus in PG6, and cross-promoted at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus.
In collaboration with Women in Computer Science (WICS), Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), BlockchainAtFiu, and and INIT, WiTCON aims to provide networking opportunities with companies looking to hire individuals with diverse backgrounds, empower participants through panel discussions with industry professionals and previous alumni, and offer educational workshops on fundamental technologies like computer science, cybersecurity, and blockchain, in a format that’s easy to understand and accessible to all.
The conference is open to everyone, regardless of gender, and is not limited to students. The typical age range of attendees at WiTCON is from 18-30, including graduate students. However, the event is open to everyone in the local Miami community.
“We are excited to announce that we have officially sold out of tickets for the event. We expect a great turnout, especially at our opening ceremony which is at 10 am in PG6 on March 24th, (this Friday),” says one of the organizers of the event.
PantherNow newspaper has been invited to document the event and share its story, as the conference is a great opportunity to showcase the amazing things that the school is doing to promote diversity and inclusion within the tech industry.
After WiTCON, clubs like Women in Computer Science, Women in Cyber Security, and BlockchainAtFiu, will continue to support attendees by being resources and safe communities for women to feel represented, seen, and heard. The goal is to provide more opportunities and resources for women to bloom in their personal and professional development journey.
“Our hopes is that WITCON 2023 sets the precedence and movement in South Florida that empowers women to step into technology, and know that there are organizations like, WICS, WICYS, Blockchain at FIU, and INIT, that are here to help them grow,”.
WiTCON is hoping to make this an annual conference that takes place every March during Women’s History Month, and is looking to continue surpassing the number of registrations year by year to reach more women in the local area.
