The School of Computing and Information Sciences (SCIS) is happy to announce that our chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon has received the award for Top National Chapter from the UPE Association! This award is given to the most outstanding chapter out of over 300 chapters nationwide, including many of the nation’s top universities. The UPE Association recognized our chapter for promoting the computer and information sciences, recognizing academic excellence, and forming an active community of computing students at FIU.

Additionally, the chapter was awarded the Outstanding Service Award from FIU’s Division of Student Affairs! This award is given to the student organization that has made the most impact on campus through its programs and activities. The Division of Student Affairs recognized UPE for its programs, including Software & Hardware, Professional, Google igniteCS, SparkDev, MentorFIU, Hackers, and Discord. Sponsorships from top companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, and Spotify were also highlighted.

Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) is the honor society for the computing and information disciplines at FIU. It’s the largest and most active student organization in the College of Engineering and Computing. The chapter currently has over 500 members who participate in its seven programs. Membership in the organization is open to all FIU students.

SCIS would like to congratulate UPE Chapter President Cesar Villa Garcia and UPE Chapter Advisor Dr. Peter Clarke for these awards. We would also like to thank them for their continued efforts in promoting the computing sciences, providing opportunities to students, and growing the tech community at FIU.
